Vision to Reality
Commissioning Stained Glass
- Having chosen a site for art glass call us to request a portfolio presentation.
- At the presentation we will discuss the possibilities for the space, show examples of previous projects, discuss techniques and the expected time frame for the work.
- A preliminary estimate, based on the work envisaged, could be available soon after this meeting.
- Once arrangements have been made between the client and the studio, we will create an original design that reflects the client's needs and artistic vision - one which will enhance the space with a unique combination of light, colour and image. The design presentation usually includes material samples, a firm price for the work and time schedule.
- The fee schedule is tailored to the requirements of the project and usually divided into several installments:
- Design Work (10%)
- Materials Advance (40%)
- Fabrication (40%)
- Completion (10%)
- Conditions and schedules for a commission may be set out in a "Letter of Agreement", or in a more extensive contract.
- Upon approval of the design, we will begin fabrication of the work. During this time, it may be possible to arrange a visit to the studio to view the work in progress.
- Upon completion, the work is delivered and installed. Scaffolding, ventilation or protective glazing may be required. Installation details and fees are specific to each project.
Each time I create a new work, I begin by listening - to the clients, the architect, and in a way to the building itself. The artwork that comes from this process is a unique expression in light and color of the people and the place it was created for.
