PROJECT
Gold-leaf glass mural, sanctuary windows, and entryway doors(Screen-printed and gold-leafed glass; etched in silver-stained float glass, screen-printed and hand-painted glass)
One of the joys of Sarah's art is that each commission wonderfully seems to embrace the whole history of the medium from its Medieval antecedents through playful quotations of post Renaissance glass to the revival of the Victorian era. It proclaims integrity and continuity!
Corey Keeble, Curator of European Art Royal Ontario Museum
The design for the 3 sets of entryway doors is based on a geometric pattern, which suggests alabaster - translucent and primarily white with blue tones. The inspiration for the glass mural design is based on the idea of using a vine motif to suggest Eucharist and celebrate community.
The vine is one of the most vivid symbols in the Bible and there are numerous Old and New Testament references to it.
There are 2 side interior windows. The upper window is based on a Book of Kells manuscript and shows the four evangelists. The lower window is a further reference to the Eucharist with a Chalice and vines.
The glass mural surrounding the Crucifix is from the Eucharist / Vine theme of the glass mural.
