PROJECT
"The Peaceable Kingdom" - Tree of Life
(Antique glass-hand-painted and silver-stained.)
Marble Collegiate Church is home to the oldest Protestant congregation in North America, and its distinctive and historic building is graced by several strong and meaningful stained glass work.

On this window, The Tree of Life, the names of all the countries of the world are subtly painted onto the leaves of the Tree of Life. This was inspired by a verse in Revelations: "The leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the Nations." This element of the window has made the window's timeless theme especially relevant, considering the window was commissioned one year prior to the September 11 incident in New York.

"Art can bring clarity to the world; not by oversimplifying or offering easy answers, but by putting important world issues into context. Within these windows I have drawn on the common scriptural tradition of our many religious heritages, to invoke the theme of peace and reconciliation - life in harmony with each other, and with nature. The hope for peace is found in all major religions, and it is a way to connect the world as it is, with a vision of what it can be."
